For adults in their 20s to early 30s, personal style is the most important factor they consider when shopping.
Finding one’s personal style within fashion is a journey itself, where people may go through multiple different articles of clothing, trying on pieces in person or online, and navigating how clothes fit their body type. This process is common for people in their 20s to early 30s.
What does a shopper in their 20s to early 30s look like?
To paint a picture of our target audience, I conducted an online survey with 42 respondents.
83% of adults prefer shopping online at retail stores.
While online shopping has grown since 2020, customers do not have a way to “try on” clothes before buying them
The largest barrier for shopping online is finding the right fit.
People come with different proportions, and there has not been an established method to predict size and fit online.
Goal: help adults in their 20s to early 30s find clothes that match their personal style and body proportions.
So how does personal style and sizing affect a user’s shopping experience?
After interviewing 12 online shoppers, I found the following:
Users don’t know how online items fit their proportions
The website must encourage users to share knowledge and experiences with each other.
Finding clothes that specifically match one’s personal style is difficult
Seeing paired outfits can help with integrating new clothes to a user’s existing wardrobe.
Users want to visualize how new clothes can match their current wardrobe
Sometimes users try to describe the article of clothing they want using keywords.
Enter ReliaFit, a mobile MVP designed to provide a personalized, virtual try-on shopping experience.
Solidifying a user’s personal style
A personal style quiz is used to personalize clothing suggestions for the user and help them find clothes that best match their preferences.
The homepage of items then suggests items that closely match their style and wardrobe.
Using body measurements to determine size and fit
ReliaFit uses the camera to measure body proportions of the user based on their front and side view, and manual measurement input.
There is a preview of how the item “may” look on the user, and they receive a fit assessment after the scan
Save Outfit Ideas
Users can upload clothing items from their camera roll or the app
Users can visualize what the outfit looks like and organize outfits into categories
A modern, approachable design system
As part of working in a small team with a product manager and software developer, I created this design system to anchor on the app’s branding and transition from design to code.
